Stephanus Johannes Paulus Kruger, known as Paul Kruger, was born in 1825 in the Cape Colony to Voortrekker parents who joined the Great Trek northward when he was a child. Growing up on the frontier, he received minimal formal education, but he became a skilled hunter and farmer, deeply immersed in the conservative Calvinist faith that would shape his worldview throughout his life. His early experiences in the Boer communities of the Transvaal instilled in him a fierce commitment to independence from British rule, and he became a prominent military leader during various conflicts with indigenous groups and neighboring territories.

All 2026 1 oz South African Silver Krugerrand Coins are available here in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The coins ship individually in plastic flips, by multiples of 25 coins in acrylic tubes, or by multiples of 500 coins in Monster Boxes.

In the obverse design of the 2026 South African Silver Krugerrand, you’ll find a portrait of Paul Kruger, the first elected president of the South African Republic. Affectionately known as Oom Paul (“Uncle Paul” in the Boer language), his left-profile likeness was originally engraved in the 1890s for the South African Gold Pound and remains a cornerstone of the Krugerrand’s enduring design.

The reverse of 2026 1 oz Silver Krugerrand Coins showcases the iconic Springbok antelope, a design that first appeared on South African currency during the 1930s and 1940s. Revived for the launch of the Gold Krugerrand in 1967, this timeless image continues to represent the national spirit of South Africa.
